This very sad event has prompted this very rare post by way of tribute.

Thank you Mr. Hart, for teaching generations of children to explore their own imaginations, and to find real happiness doing it.

… and it had just occured to me, after posting the previous message that I had entirely neglected to post anything about ikboost.com.

YET ANOTHER collection of free video tutorials from the same people who brought you Puff & Larkin and Kloibkauer.com…

What can I say about it? Controversial… but a great animation tool for people who’s minds work a little bit different. If you don’t trust recieved wisdom and aren’t afraid try something new… have a look at the site.

Here’s an example of some character animation in action on youtube:

  • Dimension Driven Design Tutorials

A quick note to mention some more free video tutorials by Puff & Larkin. This time for Bentley’s Microstation. The subject is parametric design, AKA intelligent design or specifically in Microstation - Dimension Driven Design.

If you want to know more, head over to http://klobikauer.com/ and watch the first video: Introduction, which should give a good idea of what it’s all about.

Or if you’re already familiar with MicroStation, I hope they prove useful and helpful.

    Feedback welcome, as always.

Brimful with loads of tips, tricks and external references. Also includes a basic section on how to get the most out of tools like BandSaw, Spinquad, Edge Loop and to faciltate easier translation to apps like 3D MAX, Maya, SoftImage XSI, Blender etc.

There’s not much to say about these this tutorial that hasn’t been said already, so here are some of the typical comments recieved via e-mail or from various locations accross the web.

… Woah, that’s seriously cool! … your character modeling tutorial is really outstanding! I really like the way the information is presented. Beautiful in its simplicity (which is not an easy thing to do). I also like that you took the time to note where the proper edge loops are and what they are supposed to be doing. And the fact that you provide videos as well is just icing on the cake … I love the layout of your tutorial and think that the combination of text, images, and video really makes for a comprehensive learning environment. I also like that you’ve made it for LightWave, but not specifically for LightWave … a valuable asset to the community … It has such a killer organization and is one of the most intuitive tutorial interfaces I’ve seen … . Great job!

  • Colin in 3DWorld Magazine

3DWorld magazine is the world’s biggest magazine for anything 3D related, read by all the professionals and hobbyists in the industry in over 40 countries worldwide. In this month’s (September) issue, on page 46, you’ll find a two page spread all about me and my work for the RPA. It’s actually a cut down version of the full interview with Newtek, makers of LightWave 3D. More about that in the story below. (Gotta make hay while the sun shines :D )

Available in Ireland and most of Europe now from only the best bookstores / news agents. Available in the US/Canada in September, I believe it’s usually stocked in B&N and in Borders.

    Newtek Europe

A couple of months ago, I got an e-mail from Ben Vost (a real nice guy) in Newtek-Europe, asking me if I’d like to do an interview with them for their Profiles page and that ‘it would be nice’ to have it double in Newtek’s next Advertorial profile section in 3DWorld magazine.

Needless to say I was pretty gobsmacked, and as much as I wanted to say ‘no’… but had hoped for maybe two years down the road at the very earliest - after I had established myself with some half-decent animations. So I thought about waiting until then, in case the stuff I had to present was going to me more harm than good. I didn’t think very long though… ;-)

You can read the full interview / profile online here.
